Causes Of Natural Disasters

The fact that the concerns of all: what features can Causes of natural disasters like flood or tsunami? This has been the focus of the conference of environmental associations in Germany.

That is particularly concerned about the Italians: in this country from Monday are strict new rules limiting smoking in public places.

When it comes to "natural disasters" to mind today in the first place comes the earthquake and tsunami in Southeast Asia. However, the organizers of the days of environmental protection, held late last year in Germany, yet knew nothing of this terrible misfortune, when they determined the theme of the annual joint conference of the German Union for the Protection of Nature Nabu and the Association for the Protection of the Environment, abbreviated Bund. Shortly before Christmas, the western representatives of these two German environmental companies met at Lake Constance to discuss the causes and consequences of natural disasters, as well as signs by which you can define threatening to flood the descent of avalanches in the mountains or forest fires. Vladimir Asimov continues the theme.

To begin with, that for the majority of experts has long been a fact: the reason for the growing number of natural disasters on the planet - global warming caused by human activity. Among the many speakers at the conference of scientists - the supporters of this position - most clearly expressed his views, Professor Peter Hepp, an expert geophysicist, an employee of the world's largest reinsurance company Münchener Rück:

HAPPY: We do not exaggerate and do not underestimate the degree of danger, we say the figures in his hands. We have data on natural disasters, and it is quite obvious that over the past ten years on this planet was three times as many natural disasters caused by changing weather conditions, for example, than in the sixties. Insurance payments for damages increased as much as 14 times. So, for us to doubt that there are atmospheric changes that lead to an increase in the number of accidents.

However, before proceeding to a description of climate change and the consequent urgent need to reduce emissions of harmful gases into the atmosphere, an expert geophysicist elaborated on the theme of the tsunami, has become, for obvious reasons, one of the main issues discussed at the conference. Talking about the economic impact of the tsunami in Southeast Asia, Peter Hepp surprise present an unexpected message:

HAPPY: We assume that the damage to the reinsurance companies would not be too large. Dimensions of claims will not exceed a few tens of millions of euros. Payments in connection with a hurricane in Florida last year, or after a typhoon in Japan have been far higher. Destruction in these regions have cost us billions of euros.

Of course, human suffering is not measured by money. Bereaved people do not care what caused the disaster - an earthquake or human activity. Tsunami today on the lips of everyone, but it is important to realize that this natural phenomenon can occur not only in the South Asian region - explains Peter Hepp.
