According to the joined countries, 2009 was the mildest natural catastrophe year of the ten years. Still, there were 245 catastrophes in 2009 which influenced 58 million persons around the world. The United countries reports that 90% of the disasters were "extreme climate associated" of which numerous were floods and affiliated mudslides. Here are ten worst, if not the worst, natural disasters of 2009 (worst in periods of inhabits lost) whereas disease isn't technically classified as a natural disaster, the H1N1 pandemic has been included.

200 deaths: El Salvador floods and mudslides strike in November as torrents of rain strike and caused mud and boulders to come smashing into down on the town of Verapaz and other localities of El Salvador.
173 killings: Melbourne Australia Black Saturday wilderness blazes burned across the state of Victoria starting on Saturday February 7 as temperatures soared over 100 F and winds ripped through at 60 mph. Downed power lines, cigarette butts, and other sources ignited brush that had been primed for blaze in a 10 yr drought. It was mid-March before the blazes were contained.
28 killings: Messina floods and mudslides hit when a sudden rainfall fall gale escorted by high winds and severe lightning hit the province of Messina.
27 deaths: Windstorm Klaus was a European windstorm or cyclone that strike in January with wind speeds up to 100 mph.
11 killings: Zigana avalanche occurred on Mt. Zigana in Turkey on January 25. It hit a group of hikers of which ten were instantly killed and an 11th past away subsequent. There were 6 survivors.
10 killings: Afghan avalanche struck a main road tunnel beside Kabul on January 16. Some 40persons were influenced of which ten past away.
9 deaths: May derecho (long length breeze) struck the smaller Midwest with breeze speeds topping 105 mph.
8 killings: February Tornado hit a little town near Oklahoma City on the evening of February 10. A tornado in February is a rarity. This one slashes a half-mile swath through Lone Grove Oklahoma.
